This magnificent 60 m2 (about 645 ft2) apartment is on the 2nd European floor (3rd US) of a 17th century building. The beauty of both its location on Ile Saint Louis, and the historic setting of this authentic Parisian home is incomparable. Walking up to the apartment, one can’t help but appreciate the stairway, with its heavy oak banister dating from the 1630's, as well as the typical opening to the courtyard on the first landing.
Renovated in 2013, guests will enjoy the modern comforts in this landmark setting. The apartment has retained the style of the Louis XIII period, creating an effect of breathtaking beauty. Situated on the Ile Saint Louis, in the heart of the oldest part of Paris, the apartment faces the Eglise St. Louis, site where Pope Pius VII held mass for Napoleon’s crowning in 1804. Surrounded by the Seine on all sides, the island is romantic and ever-so-charming and just a short stroll to Notre Dame, Saint Michel, and the Marais. Originally called “l’Ile aux Vaches”, the island was originally used by monks for grazing cattle. It was later renamed Ile Saint Louis after King Louis IX (called Saint Louis), who organized his 7th crusade on the island in 1250.
In keeping with the period, the apartment has retained its original wooden beams, the stone fireplace, the slightly slanting floors, and charming brick tiles. Distinguished and tastefully decorated, natural light flows in through the tall French windows. The rust colored walls and tiles as well as area rugs bring warmth to this elegant living room. The open kitchen, a sofa bed and table for 4 make it welcoming and pleasant. Old prints of Paris decorate the walls.
The first bedroom, calm and facing the courtyard, is painted a pleasant teal with matching curtains, and offers a comfortable double bed. The second cozy bedroom in located in back, is on the small side and is a perfect childrens’ room because of its low ceiling (1.82 m or 5.9 ft) with wooden beams. It can easily sleep one adult, providing a sofa which pulls out to a large single bed. Access to this 2nd bedroom is through the main bedroom only.
We are sure you will appreciate this romantic and historical setting, as well as the comfort and elegance of this exclusive apartment.
