Walk along the 11-mile peninsula, with the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Arcachon Bay on the east, taking in the beaches, sand dunes and surf. Maybe try your hand at surfing or have a beach picnic? Rent a bike and cruise along the trails or shop the Ferret Market with vendors selling everything from beach blankets, wine, local fare to extremely fancy and chic clothing. Cap-Ferret is also known as the Oyster Capital of France, so when in Rome as they say, there are plenty of restaurants and shops to get your fill: la cabane du Mambeau, chez Guillaume, La Maison du Bassin et Le Bouchon are our favourite ones. Cap-Ferret is the best of both worlds here with the crashing waves of the Atlantic and the calm bay beaches.
