Rue Montorgueil is the last remaining vestige of the great “Halles de Paris” – the central market place that moved out of Paris proper in the late 1960s. It is called the rue marché and here you can purchase fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, fish, and an assortment of meats, cheeses, and bread from small shopkeepers who display their wares openly. Some of the restaurants and stores date back as far as the 17th century! Enjoy the village feeling and sense of place and history. The apartment has been completely renovated (December 2007) and features carefully re-exposed beams, a new oak floor, an open designer kitchen and designer bath with large shower and heated towel rack, air conditioning, a first quality double sized bed and an excellent sofa bed.

We have tried to maintain the feeling of the historical context of the building and the area by revealing and refinishing magnificent 400-year old beams and reinstalling wood floors. But we have consistently sought to modernize the conveniences and furnishings in accordance with our sense of style. All appliances, including refrigerator, combination ceramic stove-top/ oven/ dishwasher, microwave oven, and sink are new as are all furnishings. A built in media center bookshelf houses the flat screen television and entertainment center. Another built in closet provides space for clothing and shoes. We have also added overhead light fixtures in the kitchen and wall lamps in the living and bedroom areas. We have installed a big water heater that provides an ample supply of water for showers or baths!

Rue Marie Stuart is located in the heart of Paris. The Seine, the Louvre, the Opera, the Pompidou Center, the Marais district, the Sainte Chapelle, and the Latin Quarter are all within easy walking distance. The same is true of the shopping center at Les Halles, the Palais Royal, and the Tuilleries Gardens. In the nearby Forum des Halles, you will find a large selection of shops as well as a large swimming pool and a Cineplex, complementing the variety of cafes, restaurants, and shops on rue Montorgueil.

Transportation could not be more convenient from this fantastic location. If you cannot walk where you want to go, there are three metro stations and three rapid transit lines (RER) within a five-minute walk of the apartment.
