This small and narrow cobblestone street extends about 50 meters between rue Montorgueil and the arcades of the Passage du Grand Cerf, one of the enclosed passages. It's lined with small boutiques, cozy cafes and restaurants that crisscross this part of Paris. The arcades were built during the 1800s when Haussmann was renovating and modernizing the city. Poets like Baudelaire strolled the sidewalks here, and the literary critic and philosopher Walter Benjamin identified the arcades as being emblems of the distinctly modern metropolis.

The apartment is located on a pedestrian only street that’s closed to traffic Looking out through the open French windows on a sunny day is relaxing, but the evenings are full of energy. But step outside, walk about 20 meters to the right to rue Montorgueil, and you're embraced by one of the most energetic and picturesque streets of Paris. It's one of the oldest streets in the city that offers an array of small shops, groceries, restaurants and cafes, to a steady stream of locals. It's called the rue Marche because you can purchase fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, fish, and an assortment of meats, cheeses, and bread from small shopkeepers. Some of the shops date back as far as the 17th century! Enjoy the village feeling and sense of place and history.

This four-story home dates back to the early 1600s and is listed in “Architecture et Arts.” It's visited by guided walking tours as an example of 17th century architecture. The building was completely renovated about 25 years ago to modernize the infrastructure, while maintaining its historical integrity. It's constantly being maintained through contributions of all the building residents.

As you enter this home, you’ll be greeted by carefully preserved 17th century terracotta floors and magnificent 400-year-old beams that support the high ceilings. The kitchen and the living area are open and separated by a breakfast bar with a massive oak countertop. The kitchen was designed by La Peyre and includes white and brown lacquered trim that provides ample room for kitchenware. There are cheery white and yellow tiling accents that provides a homey feeling. Enjoy cooking or heating a meal with top-of-the-line appliances that include a four-burner convection stove and then an easy clean-up with the dishwasher. The counter seating makes it a relaxing place to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.

The kitchen opens to the living room where large windows allow lots of light and a nice cool breeze to flow in the warmer months. There’s comfortable seating including an Italian sofa bed that can sleep two guests on a comfy thick mattress. Enjoy the inviting red and brown tones with accents of original wall art. It makes for an enjoyable place to come home after a long day or to linger in the morning before starting your day.

The bedroom is located on a quiet back courtyard and includes a restful queen bed. The brown beams continue in this room and tie into the warm shades of browns and tans. It’s calming and will ensure a good night rest. There’s a large built-in closest for hanging your clothes, storing your luggage or maybe some souvenirs to bring home. You’ll find the bathroom that includes a large shower, heated towel rack and a washer/dryer. It’s done in white tile with shades of red that blend the entire apartment together beautifully. The WC is located in the hallway for easy access by all.

This home is situated in the heart of the city with the Seine, Louvre, Opera and the Marais just a hop, skip and jump away. Sainte Chapelle and the Latin Quarter are all within easy walking distance. Near les Halles you’ll find a large selection of shops as well as a large swimming pool and a Cineplex. The best part? Rue Montorgueil is steps away and you’ll find yourself becoming a local with visits every day for some of the freshest food.

Transportation couldn't be easier from this fantastic location. If you can't walk where you want to go, there are three metro stations and RER lines within a five-minute walk of the apartment. The central bus stop at Place Chatelet is also just a few minutes’ walk.
