This spacious one bedroom apartment offers a quiet retreat in the
Marais District, not far from Paris' famous modern art museum- the
Pompidou Center. Beautiful wooden floors, high quality contemporary
furnishings, a comfortable queen size bed, a large very well
equipped kitchen make this an excellent vacation home.
Within a short distance from the apartment you will find quality
food markets with everything from wine and cheeses to fresh
vegetables. The apartment is decorated in a moderate and comfortable
style to assure the guest a comfortable stay.
This fourth floor apartment (no elevator), in an 18th century
building with courtyard and pleasant ambiance, offers a nice rooftop
view of the Centre Pompidou- a three minute walk. Here you will find
the hustle and bustle of the Beaubourg, with its street
entertainers, it has become a center for international youth of all
ages. The Centre George Pompidou was built on the initiative of
former President George Pompidou, to create a multipurpose cultural
center and regenerate into the neighborhood, following the demise of
the old Les Halles food markets. All through this Quartier are
wonderful old buildings with admirable facades dating from the 16th
century, some have been transformed into remarkable Museums.
Ten minutes away, is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris,
known as "La Place des Vosges" where you will also find fine dining
as well as art and clothing boutiques to suit your taste. Once known
as the Place Royale, (it was a courtyard of the royal palace) it is
here that Henri II accidentally met his death in a tournament in
1559. When the court was moved to the Louvre after that tragedy, the
deserted courtyard became a horse market, and was also used as a
dueling ground. In an attempt to beautify Paris in 1605, Henri IV
had the Place des Vosges
constructed as it is today.
A fifteen minute walk will take you to the Place de la Bastille,
a historic Paris intersection of several important thoroughfares
connecting the 3rd, 4th, 11th, and 12th arrondissements, where many
events of the 1789 revolution took place. This was once the home of
the Man in the Iron Mask, imprisoned by Louis XIV.Today on this
former site of the Bastille is the Opera House where spectacular
events and operas are performed from Aida to Zaide.

"After some
'dubious' accommodations in Rome, some 'varied' rooms in Athens and
the islands, and some "adequate" apartments in Paris on
previous trips, rue Pecquay was an absolute delight. Clean, bright,
great location (awesome patisserie in particular) and a very friendly
building. We really needed this oasis and were so thankful for it. We
agree with the sentiments of previous visitors to the apartment and
suggest also checking out the rue des Rosiers et Vieille du Temple
-particularly at night. Great restaurants and a great
atmosphere." Brent and Jennifer , NSW Australia
"Perfect location" This apartment was in a perfect
lively location. The Metro was only a two minute walk and there were
lots of cafes and mini markets within easy walking district. The
district was lively and felt very safe even late at night. The locals
were polite and very helpful. We were always met with a Bonjour
whenever we walked up the stairs and saw other residents. At night
(despite one party on a Saturday night which can be forgiven) the
apartment block was very quiet. There was very little street noise
late at night. There are plenty of ATM close by. The apartment was
very nice and the condition of the rooms was excellent. The bathroom
was very spacious and washing machine was very handy. We felt
immediately at home in the apartment and there was nothing we needed
that was not already there. The apartment was spotlessly clean. The
lounge room was spacious and a great way to unwind after a long day.
We would easily return to this apartment without hesitation and plan
to! After walking around most districts of Paris clearly the Marais
district is the best location to stay and make your base to explore
Paris. Michael M., Richmond, VIC, Australia More
