This apartment boasts of over 70 m2 (@750 ft2) and its
4th European floor (5th US) elevation is serviced by an elevator. It has very good security and sleeps up to 4 persons; 3 adults and a young adult or child. The main bedroom has a king size bed. The second
smaller bedroom has a two bunk unit, one on top of the other, which is meant only for children or young adults.
The top bunk is accessed by a ladder, the mattresses are 190 cm x 80 cm (73 inches x 31 in) and are recommended for persons less than 6 feet tall - an adult could sleep on the bottom bunk. Parents must use caution with children on the bunk beds, especially when using the wooden
ladder that is permanently attached to the unit. A large bathroom services the apartment
and includes a large sink, a WC, a bathtub and shower combo unit – the shower head is on wall and can be removed to be used as a hand held sprayer.
Most of the apartment has tile flooring, except the bedrooms which are wood parquet and were recently been repainted in April 2012. The open kitchen with a generous amount of counter space has a three burner stove top, an oven, refrigerator/freezer combo, microwave, dishwasher and is separated by a counter from the living area. The higher elevation and southeast exposure allows in a good deal of light in the apartment. A large dining table is more than enough for six people. The living room is also large, with a sofa and armchair, plenty of room to relax and share the day’s stories or plan for the next day. This is a quiet apartment, the property owner has installed double pane windows and the street below only allows pedestrians; no vehicular traffic – not even bicycles! The owner says you can hear birds chirp on sunny mornings!
The apartment – where Juliette Drouet, Victor Hugo’s lover lived in the mid 1800's – is accessed by a pedestrian only arcade which was the main street of a medieval part of Paris that was miraculously left intact, and protected from “modernization”, when under Louis Napoleon, Blvd. St. Germain was opened by demolishing most of the Latin Quarter. The Odeon metro station is only 2 minute walk and the St. Michel/Notre Dame RER, connecting directly with Paris’ two airports is 7-9 minute walk.
When you step outside your apartment building each day, you are surrounded by cafes, restaurants, chocolate shops, outdoor cafes, and tons of history! From here a 12-15 minute stroll will take you to the Cathedral of Notre Dame and in only 5 minutes to the River Seine and all of the St. Michel/St. Germain area. From your balconies you can see the apartment where Mr. Guillotin, the inventor of the guillotine, lived. The balconies look on the main street where this device, intended to make beheading more “human”, and was first tried with an act of cruelty on animals, by cutting the head of sheep. It was subsequently put into practical use, to sever the heads of over 1500 French royalty and government officials, on the Place de la Revolution...later renamed Place la Concorde!
